I woke up one morning in a sleep paralysis dream where my bed turned into the ocean. While floating amidst the open waters, my body was inept but my mind was wide awake. The waves washing over me left me gasping for air while a spirit prayed beside me in a language I couldn’t understand. It was a chilling yet serene experience.

Reflect What You Are

2010  •  24×18 in. Charcoal

This piece is inspired by the Velvet Underground song I’ll Be Your Mirror. It depicts a female figure channeling a spirit that’s guiding her through the mirror so she can see the reflection of who she is inside. During this out-of-body experience, she releases the thoughts which plague her mind while a protector waits on the other side where the door to her mind is open.
